A prayer for your country on election day (full text, no sides)
On election day many people want to pray before they vote and do not know what to say. This prayer fits in the line at the polling station, asks victory for no one and follows what Paul asked in 1 Timothy 2:1-2: supplication, intercession and thanksgiving for all who govern. Read it quietly or send it to someone.
For the country
Lord, thank you for this country, for the people who will vote today and for those who could not. Give peace to the day: respect in the lines, calm in the conversations, safety in the streets. Let no one leave home angry at a neighbour, a relative or a stranger because of a choice.
For those who vote
Give every voter conscience and wisdom, as James 1:5 asks. Let us vote thinking of those who have less, not only of ourselves. Keep my heart from despising those who choose differently from me.

Start for freeFor those who work today
For the poll workers, the police, those in the hospital, in transport and in the shops while the others vote. Give patience, a cool head and protection. “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).
For whoever is elected
Lord, whoever it is, give that person justice, humility and a servant’s spirit (Micah 6:8). Surround them with good counsel. Remind them every day that to govern is to care. Give those who lose the peace to accept the result, and those who win the memory that they will govern for everyone.
Tomorrow
Let the country still be our home on Monday, and let me seek its peace as Jeremiah 29:7 asks, because in its peace I too will have peace. Amen.
